This was one of the most challenging projects I have participated in. To fulfill the stocking for seniors project, I would spend a couple of weekends in Walmart approaching shoppers to ask for assistance. I would explain to them the items that were needed, and ask them to purchase an item/s to donate. I meet some very generous and kind people during this experience. It made my heart full to be able to see the joy and happiness on the seniors faces when these were delivered.

Meals on Wheels is such a extordinaary program. Something as simple as a meal, I saw put such a big smile on so many faces. Having the opportunity to knock on the door of a senior with a hot meal in hand, and speak to them was so rewarding. Until I had this opportunity I never realized the magnitude of this organization.

As a volunteer at Belville Elementary School, I was am able to work one-on-one with kindergarten students who were stuggling with math or reading skills. I believe that I would be a good candidate for the Grayling Generating Station Limited Partnership Scholarship. Through the following paragraphs I hope to demonstrate my suitability as a recipient of this scholarship. “It’s not where you start it’s where you finish” is a famous song lyric that applies to my life story. I believe my journey began in a small, rural, impoverished village in southern China, named Dapu. At the age of ten months I was adopted by my mom and traveled 7622 miles to arrive in Grayling, MI.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I volunteered at the Forest Mall for the Tootsie Roll Drive. This organization provides service for those people with intellectual disabilities. What I physically did while volunteering at the Forest Mall was hand out Tootsie Rolls outside to the people that donated money. I also would kindly ask people to donate as they came in or out of the mall. I kept a kind and loving smile on my face to welcome anyone who was willing to donate.…

What do you consider to be your most meaningful contribution to Colleges Against Cancer during the 2015-16 year? I think I consider my participation in Relay for Life event as the most meaningful contribution that I have made to Colleges Against Cancer during the school year. I was not able to attend Tuesday meetings especially on winter quarter because of a job I had that needed me on Tuesday nights. However, this did not hinder me to constantly communicate to my other committee members. When time permitted this spring, I actively participated during Tuesday meetings, some of the flyering weeks, the production for Relay props, and the event itself.…

I participated in events such as volunteering in local soup kitchens, Spicket River cleanup, earth day and helping to pick up trash around the city of Lawrence. After I saw what a difference I could make by just simply helping my community through the school, I decided to do some community service on my own. Following my trade area I went on to volunteer at Lawrence General Hospital. Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

That helped me look at life in a simpler way, and taught me to put aside anything I was going through to make this young student’s day. I’ve also had the chance to see the unfairness of the world impacting those in my community when I volunteered at two Center for Human Development (CHD) programs. I have helped out at the Grace House, a program for mothers who are in recovery from addiction, and their children. I’ve also helped at a farm share held for homeless families in CHD shelters, which provides them with free…

When I began my search for my Silver Award project, my first though turned to children and kids my age, because who better to help than people my age and in my community, and I felt that the group of people the project was intended for would be a great match. I brain stormed with my troop and finally decided on a lending library for the Frisco Summer Lunch Program. My first step was to meet the coordinators of the lunch program and discuss my ideas. After this, my group and I began to gather supplies and set a final date to begin our projects. I specifically was in charge of signage and collecting the vast majority of 2000 books after coordination 2 book drives.…
