(A Discussion on Reinstating the Draft in The United States)
Thomas Jefferson once vocalized, “Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.” Indeed, it is important that America has willing men and women willing to contend against opposing forces for the freedom and independence of these great states, but there is no need to reinstate the draft. Men and women who volunteer to fight for the autonomy of America are a very diligent, select few, they deserve the utmost respect and honor for the charitable acts that they do. As aforementioned, these soldiers are a select few. Not everyone is made to take to the field as soon as there is word of war. However, this does not mean that American citizens have no place in war, every able man and woman in America should have to aid the troops in some way; whether it be through medical needs, moral support or monetary assistance. It is crucial that every U.S. citizen supports the war effort in some way. A draft would help get the word spread, but it is not the most efficient tactic. The most preeminent way to aid in these services is to begin today. Getting the schools and business places involved would really get word spreading. The government could also ask every citizen to donate an hour from their week to assist in the war effort. This assistance can be writing a letter to a soldier, donating to a canned food drive, sewing a blanket for a soldier, or donating five dollars. A draft is not necessary in order to have support from citizens. Although, if needed, a law for American citizens to help aid the war efforts would not have substandard
