Personal Narrative: The Time Travelors Wife

To me, reading books is somewhat like working on an assembly line in a factory and really loving my job. I love to read, and always have, though there has been no magical occurance as to why like one would hope. Like working in a factory where you do the same thing over and over again, I read a book and the story is always the same. I always really enjoy the books I read but nothing sets them apart from one another. I have read, and loved, books such as Ella Enchanted, The Time Travelors Wife, The Pact, and Please Stop Laughing at Me, but in the end, they are each just a book like all the rest. I have always loved to read and I have not been able to put books down since I can remember. I enjoy all sorts of books from romance to mystery, …show more content…

She was bullied to no end but she never lost the 'good person ' she really was. This book really makes you think about how you live your life and how you talk to people. This is a book I have always felt I could relate to because I never really felt like I fit in throughout my school years. I was always the 'loner ' and really did not like to do things that would get me in trouble or would hurt others. That is not to say I have never slipped up. Being a human, I cannot say I have never done anything to hurt someone else, whether it was intentional or unintentional. This forced me relate to the bullies, even if I really wish I could say I couldn 't. Although this book inspires me to be a better person, it is still just an interesting book. The final book on the line is called The Pact. This is a story of a boy and a girl who grew up practically destined to be together but that changes when one is killed in a supposed suicide gone wrong. The story then launches into the trial where the boy is being persecuted for murder. The police were able to come up with a motive when it was discovered that the girl was pregnant when she died. The story of the boy was that the girl wanted to kill herself and he just wanted to make her happy so he held the gun while she pulled the

I’m not sure exactly why I feel this way; maybe it is because you get to imagine what you are reading and are not bound by the depiction on a screen. I’m not however the first to think this; many prominent figures such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet strongly believe reading makes you a smarter person and gives you power. The power of reading is not only mentioned in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World it is the main focus of Fahrenheit 451 which depicts a dystopian world where all books are burned to keep citizens complacent and powerless. The lessons and insight about life that reading has presented me this year were very interesting and impactful.…

Annie gives us both sides of the argument, and shows an extensive amount of research to back us her opinion. I believe that reading strengthens your mind, and help you view life in multiple perspectives, allowing me and everyone else to become better individuals. I personally don’t like reading so much, and I’m not the only one, some people are just not made for reading, but once in awhile I find a book that I really love, and can’t put down. In the article, Annie states that people who read fiction, “appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective,” I’ve came across a book like that once, and I loved it.…

Zach, the Manager of the Ridgedale Dairy Queen, was my first boss. He’s the kind of guy that I would avoid eye contact with if I were walking across campus alone, over 6 feet, burly, and with big, curly hair and beard. Besides being physically intimidating, he’s loud, he’s opinionated, the very first day he asked me, “So, Maren, what are your politics?” which, unsurprisingly took me, a mousy Minnesota native, aback. I took my time and answered, he looked at me for a moment before spitting out a long response, but the brief surprise that crossed his face as thought out opinions came out of my plump, female, rosy haired and cheeked self didn’t evade me.…

Literatures can make us dissatisfied with our lives and even make us jealous of the strange anomalies that occur in the life of a fictional character. Take my life as an example: a typical Chinese boy in Canada living under a stereotypical Chinese roof; with that, my family forces encourages me to look in the direction of universities and with an invisible hand they impatiently drag patiently guide me towards their my own goals. In other words, my life has no clear purpose, no strong climax, no interesting plot, no diverse character developments and not even a unique style. How good can a story turn out to be if it is lacking in so many areas?…
