I went to low performing schools, I lived in a low income neighborhood, and in spite of this I attended college. I have grown-up, worked, and volunteered in low-income communities. Being from a low-income community has given me the ability to understand. It has given me patience, taught me determination, and admittedly has put a chip on my shoulder. I would bring each of these characteristics into my classroom. I would be understanding of the students that go without and patience for those that do not understand why they are so angry at the world. I would most likely use my experience as the determination needed to keep me going throughout the year. I would lastly teach my students that being from the “ghetto” doesn’t define them, and to use where they come from as motivation to move
