At first I was fixed on becoming a clinical psychologist, yet after more research on mental health and developing a better understanding of the field; I found that a degree in clinical mental health counseling is what I was truly seeking. My primary desire is to work alongside troubled individuals to discover the causes of distress in their lives and to aid them in dealing with their condition. To do this, I will need to further my understanding of the various forms of psychological disorders and methods of dealing with them in various contexts; while also working beside those that are already attuned to the field to better understand how to properly interact with patients. I wish to treat those who suffer disorders that eat away at their very being, and I do feel as though I can make a difference in people’s lives. If not to aid them in overcoming their sickness altogether, then at the very least, to give them a chance for change, and more importantly, a chance for hope. I believe that I have the ability to benefit others, and to bring this ability to the forefront, I will need a strong institution to aid in its molding. Thus, I hope to work alongside those within Wright State University’s counseling program to fulfill this need.
