Reflection On African American Ethnicity

The Majority of my twenty years was spent in the smallest state in the USA, Rhode Island. Up until know Providence was all I knew, a small but over capacitated city. This was the place I called home. I have a very large family three boys and three girls with me being the youngest by far. Growing up it felt like I had five extra parents instead of having siblings. The only difference was they were all very much easier to speak to than my actual parents and always kept me out of trouble. Providence is so different from everywhere due to its size everything close but, it still has an urban atmosphere like a big time major city. For the very most part of my life I attended public schools this helped to turn me into the tough person that I ‘am …show more content…
This is a unique race of people that has had to overcome a lot from being suppressed by other ethnicity due to their looks and how they were seen as a whole by others. To be a member of this race means that you have to work very hard to get where you want just because of the color of your skin and the stereotypes that people already have of this ethnicity. As a member of this race it is harder to succeed in life you have to work twice as hard because one mistake can completely diminish all that you have accomplished.
I come from a middle class family which means my family was content, but sometimes struggled, but bills were always paid and I always ate well. This social class impacted my life a lot I understood that you had to work for what you wanted and nothing came easily. This made me want to become a part of a higher class because I wanted to enjoy my life more than work majority of it. Seeing what my parents had to go through just to achieve what they had and only be in the middle class. This made me want to be a part of the upper class because they enjoy the finer things of

The goal for studying these eight key elements was to see how they would play a part in our own identity and if our opinion of our identity would change over the semester. It was not hard to see how these eight elements make up my identity. Many of the elements you are already born with it and have no power of controlling until you are older. Like your race, gender, age, culture, and social class. You obviously cannot change your race but as you get older you can change where you fit in all of these elements. For an example you can grow up being poor but becomes a famous athlete and your entire social class can change. Your culture can be changed also when you get older many people just accept the culture of their parents and they might not have the same beliefs as them but when they grow up they tend to part ways from that culture. Your ability can also change as you get older. There is usually a peaking point for ability then after that age limit it starts to diminish over time and many people do not want to accept that. Your sexuality is something that is found at a certain age. At the right age you tend to figure out what you like whether it is female or male so people are not born “homosexual” or “Heterosexual” they decipher what they are when they are older. Overall I realized that age plays a key part in these

Expectations Why does society commonly believe that one ascriptive characteristic of your identity makes you privileged? Are not all people mistreated by society at least at one point or another, “With respect to the most basic moral values such as justice, ‘we should regard all human beings as our fellow citizens and neighbors’ (Nussbaum, 117).” Being a young white woman I have found no privilege in todays’ society because I have been treated unfairly at work, racially profiled, social profiled, and disrespected by my male counterparts in my everyday life. To begin with, women are not treated the same way as males in the United States “Men’s unwillingness to grant that they are overprivileged in the curriculum, even though they may grant…

Having both African American ancestry itself fails to show true understanding and respect for cultural differences, I have been recognized as having showing leadership and academic achievement even while being thrown into unfamiliar cultures. Largely my curiosity of wanting to discover other cultures was because I sought to find where I fit in. Among the invisible line of separation between certain cultural groups of people in the lunch room, I jumped around, but always found myself in the center; where a group of each student from each corner came together because they didn’t fit in. More often than not, these kids were also intelligent and when not competing with them academically, they would be my support and motivation to do well. This…

    Social Class Hierarchy

    • 1 Pages

Throughout history, human nature instinctively places people among an upper and lower class hierarchy; however, countless people placed in these classes are physically and mentally similar to those below and above them. To start, the upper class can be determined by the great surplus of money and riches that they own (Long). The human race has organized the economically insecure into the lower class because they do not have the money that humans crave and live for. If you do not have money, you do not get a say in anything ("Social Class Hierarchy"). Also, the prosperity that each class has tends to pass down to the next generation without changing.…
