Students and teachers must become partners in critical thinking. Teacher should not fear the role of the student. They should embrace the student and learn from them. This can be achieved through dialogue, which will switch the student and teacher relationship, where one learns from the other. The banking educational goals must be overlooked and replaced with the problem posing system of education. In the problem posing system the students have the opportunity to interact with the teacher which leaves room for opinions, arguments, and debates. A problem posing example would be my science class that I took during my senior year of high school. My science teacher encouraged me and the students to include our opinions on world issues, such as global warming and the world’s population. Many students had different thoughts on global warming and the world’s population. Some people believed that global warming was real and getting worse, while others thought that it was a myth. A few students thought that the world’s population was increasing too fast and will become unsustainable, while others believed that we will have enough technology to support the growing population. These different outlooks were supported with the previous knowledge that the teacher has taught us. We were able to form our …show more content…
Problem posing education focuses on concepts that have praxis. Praxis is the everyday application of ideas and concepts learned through education. Students must be able to realize that what they learn in the classroom can help them alter the world. This realization allows them to participate in praxis. When students are given problems as opposed to only information, the process becomes more practical. The students will be able to learn the information and apply it to the real world, where it becomes more useful. The problem posing method gives the students a chance to critically think about the contradictions in the world. For instance, my science teacher, who used the problem posing system, would put on the news every week. He allowed us to see how the issues, such as global warming and the world’s population, are applied to everyday life. Those issues affect the way we live in the present and in the future. We, as students, were able to create thoughts and concepts that helped us learn in school but also in everyday
