Accuracy and precision are very important factors when performing a lab experiment. These two factors determine the quality of data in a lab, precision is the process of having data that is close together but not being close to the expected value while accuracy is having data that is close to the expected value but necessary close together. The accuracy and precision can vary between different instruments used in labs. Examples of instruments are a burette, graduated pipette, and graduated cylinder. Each instrument has different levels of precision and accuracy and are used daily in labs around the world in experiments involving measuring chemicals, knowing which instruments are most precise and accurate can allow data from labs to be more …show more content…
Therefore, the pipette will be the most precise and accurate since using a graduated pipette will allow flow of water to be more controllable and therefore the data will be near the expected value. The method of testing this experiment will be to compare the pipette to a 10 mL graduated cylinder and a 50 mL burette. Equations that will be used are density=(mass/volume) and subtracting the weight of the beaker with water to the weight of the beaker to achieve the difference. The materials used within the lab were paper towels, three 100-150mL beakers, one 300mL beaker, 10mL pipette, 10mL graduated cylinder, 50mL burette, thermometer, and a scale to weight the beakers. The lab begins with cleaning out the three 100-150mL and one 300mL beaker with water to remove any chemicals left over from previous labs then preceding to dry the beakers thoroughly with paper towels. The 300mL beaker then is filled with water to be used within the experiment, put a thermometer into the water to obtain the temperature …show more content…
The method used in this lab was filling three 100-150 mL beakers with water from a pipette, graduated cylinder, and burette then weighing them to find out which ones would be the most precise and accurate. The outcome of the lab was the graduated beaker was the most precise due to its ability to easily read the values and the burette was the most accurate because of the ability to have the water drop out one at a time. This lab would have to be redone with a better pipette in order to see if the graduated cylinder will still remain the most precise and the burette the most
