Importance Of Planning In Health Promotion

A core competency I have denoted as extremely important in my work placement is planning. Planning involves the discussion, organisation and designing of activities and events needed in order for a goal to be achieved. It involves a company/ organisation etc. working strategically in co-operation and setting priorities that will effectively meet their goals. Planning is very much intertwined with other competencies, most notably needs assessment, implementation as well as evaluation and research. The concept of planning in health promotion practise should never be overlooked and its importance should not be underestimated. Throughout the year, the NIPC hold several courses, conferences, health events and training. In order for events like these to be successful, effective planning must be implemented.

Every Wednesday morning, the key members of the NIPC team, including the organisation’s CEO and the director of the prevention programmes, hold a training and education meeting where upcoming events are organised and prepared. When planning for these events they make sure that all activities and resources are managed both efficiently and effectively. I have had the opportunity to participate in

It is not alone important when creating health programmes and organising events but it is also crucial in relation to time management and aligning resources to maximize strategic success. Although planning can be quite a time consuming process, with some meetings I attend lasting up to three hours, it is essential in providing both a structure and framework to work from. It aids significantly in reaching objectives, both measuring outcomes and aligning the centre’s priorities with broader goals as well as helping to organise time effectively and achieve realistic
