My school is connected and shares the same grounds with the City of Miami Police Department and the City of Miami Police College. This unique setup and experience has allowed me start the conversation to create a partnership with both departments.

My objective as an instructor is to instill in students the importance of high morals, an acceptable grade point average, good judgment, and active community involvement. These skills at a young age are developing a young student into a highly qualified potential applicant to enter the field of law enforcement. City of Miami would potentially have a better pool of applicant to choose from with making hiring decisions. My program and students would provide quality candidates for police cadets, community service officers, police officers, and other law enforcement related positions within the community. The students at LEOMHS assists City of Miami Police Department with community events by promoting community policing and keeping youth involved in their efforts to build partnerships with residents and business owners. Students conduct ride along assignments with police officers, work side-by-side with police detectives, crime scene technicians, 911 dispatchers, and other specialized units within the police department. This partnership provide expanded learning opportunities that are motivating and engaging during the school day, after school, and in the summer; and offer essential social supports and services; engages students as assets in the law enforcement communities. The community and all stakeholders have taken a difference stance on how students should be taught. The stakeholders and parents have begun to support a broader educational platform – one that enhances teachers’ and students social and emotional skills. The partner I chose provides an opportunity for students to participate in community events which provide an opportunity to enhance social skills outside of the classroom and in most cases doing something that they like.
