Leadership, a term used by many to describe the action of leading a group of people or an organization, but leadership within the community through the youth holds a much larger role in modern society. Martin Luther King Jr. describes the importance of communal leadership saying, “life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?.” I believe that leadership is not necessarily wielding authority but it is crucial to empowering members within the society to work together to solve many problems we face. By being a part of the Peer Acceptance Leadership Skills (PALS) program, I believe it is the necessary link between connecting high school youth to the community to help empower those who with disabilities, those who …show more content…
When I am given a task or project to complete, I am always conscientious in putting in hard work and dedication towards completing the task efficiently and cooperatively with my peers. I always maintain integrity whenever discussing important matters with my peers and children as it instills principles of honesty and truth-telling even in ugly situations. By maintaining integrity, I have been able to successfully guide younger students and guide them on a morally correct path of honesty core values. A final quality that defines me is perseverance. I believe I am best defined by perseverance as I am always persistent and determination to continue on with a task even if it's difficult to reach the outcome. For example, when I was planning my book drive for the refugees, I received a lot of negativity on Islam and was rejected by many different organizations. Through my qualities of integrity, conscientiousness, and perseverance, I was able to overcome the adversity and work with the school and other organizations to raise awareness which resulted in a successful donations drive. By becoming a PAL, I will be able to instill these qualities into the youth and also cooperate with others to use their best qualities to solve problems and work together as a
