My fieldwork focused on early childhood education, specifically kindergarten and second grade. Being able to observe those two grade levels helped me to solidify my desire to be a teacher. At the end of my observations, I was able to determine where I felt most comfortable; where I found my niche. I came to the conclusion that I preferred to focus my attention to kindergarten rather than any other grade level in early childhood education. Even though they were two different grade levels, the techniques used in the classroom were either the same or similar. My observation in kindergarten took place in St. Mark’s Lutheran School located in Yonkers taught by Mrs. Mayor. There were 15 students in each classroom and they sat in groups of five, which formed 3 round tables. Each student was assigned a seat, but if the student misbehaved or disrupted the group, they were moved to another table. Each morning was started by the students gathering on the rug to cite a prayer. After the prayer, students learn about the importance of Jesus as well as what he does for us. When the children are done with the Morning Prayer, one individual student was picked to move object on a chart posted on the board. The chart pertained to the days of the week, the month and the weather for that particular day. After the student was done …show more content…
Students identify the importance of the book as well as the importance of the characters. By doing so, students are increasing their ELA skills by identifying the main characters as well as the main events in the story; ELA common core standard. Students then return to their seats to go over site words that were assigned for homework. The teacher goes over the pronunciation of the site words in order for students to grasp a better understanding. When students are called on to pronounce the site word, they have to provide another word that begins with the first

My field work experience had started in the preschool and where I have done the majority of my observations thus far. In the preschool I was beginning to understand how the different of components of the preschool all had concepts of phycology through all aspects of the classroom. During my time I saw how Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, how students handled new information through various methods, and Vygotsky’s sociocultural perspective are incorporated through different sections of the classroom. The classroom was based that learning should not be a structured experience, but learning should be developed through play and exploration.…

As stated above. The morning teacher of my class asks the parents of her children about their culture and family rituals and incorporates that into the classroom. Also, some of the children that I’ve worked with in the past have sometimes not prayed because it was something that the family did not do at home. Because of this I first explained to the child that praying before a meal is good and explain how God blesses us with food and friends so we should pray and thank him for these wonderful gifts. After that happened I brought it to my director’s attention and asked her for advise…
