While the students with other less severe disabilities work on their homework from other classes. One of the TA’s will sit down at a table known as the science table where they will work with the students on worksheets regarding different science topics. The other TA works with the students that are completing homework or other class assignments. This class also has a therapy dog that they share with the elementary school across the street from the middle school. Mrs. Whitelaw rewards the students for jobs well done by using a ladder system. The students each have a name plaque with a Velcro back that is attached to the whiteboard on top in a ladder like style. Each student at the end of each class would show Mrs. Whitelaw in the different TA’s what they completed that day and after each class. If the students completed the right amount of work, had good behavior, and displayed kindness they would be moved up on the ladder. Once they reach the top of the ladder they would receive a ticket that would go towards a raffle that happened every Friday for them to receive a reward.
