Wow, it’s been close to five months since that first post way back in February. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. I guess time flies when you’re doing lots of stuff. It seems to me that doing a periodic look back is helpful in a project like this. If for no other reason than to see whether or not I’ve made any progress. I am happy to report that, on many fronts, I am doing better.
I’d have to really quiz other people to know for sure, but I think I have come a long way on the negativity. Yes, I still have my moments or days even, but it’s no longer a constant barrage of negativity. I’m also a lot more aware of when I’m being negative and why I’m being negative. I really thought, going in, that I was going to need tons of techniques to make even marginal improvement on this issue. In the long though, simple awareness has been the most valuable strategy. You have to be aware of a thing to do something about it. As the Buddhists would say, mindfulness is key.
Professional development remains an ongoing challenge, but one I’m making progress on. I’ve been doing the necessary research, getting the proverbial

Some of it has been my own fault. Looking back I can see where my own self-discipline let me down. Some of it can be laid at the feet of circumstance. Fitness and nutrition, in my recent experience, are best served by routine. My life has been utterly filled with disruptions the last couple of months. While some of those disruptions were welcome, like a visit from family and a different visit from a friend, some of them were just unavoidable and aggravating. I’ve been getting almost weekly migraines, each of which pretty much killed a full day and occasionally two days out of every week. It’s hard to stay on track under those conditions. I have been trying to get back on the wagon with both the fitness and nutrition this last week, so we’ll see how that works out in another month or
