Nursing Midterm Reflection

The 210 midterm skills test was a hard thing to come into and leave. Although, I tried to prepare and present all of nursing’s global concepts, I ran out of time and let my nerves get the best of me. I did have a few successes, but I also need to work on some items for the future.
I tried to come to my midterm skills test fully prepared, but I had a few hinderances which caused me to falter while performing skills. I made sure I went to every open lab I was available to attend within three of the midterm date. There, I would practice everything from spiking primary bags, administering intramuscular medications (IM), and starting intravenous (IV) medications. Also, I got together in a study group where we went over the patient’s chart and looked

Before starting care, it is vital to ask about culture, because, as nurses, we would not want to offend one of patients by being ignorant to their healthcare beliefs. Different healthcare beliefs from mine could have come from a multitude of different factors such as gender, race, religion, age, and social class which all could have affected the cultural relationship the patient had. I demonstrated this in my midterm by before starting any of my skills, I asked the patient if he would have any cultural barriers to any of the skills I would be performing. The next thing I did well on was professionalism. I dressed appropriately for the midterm in my clinical gear, and I made sure I had all required materials I needed to be able to do my skills. I also showed accountability by showing up early before my preparation time (Des Moines Area Community College, 2017-2018, p. 13). I also tried to keep a respectful, professional tone with the client which also means I treated him his age. My client was an older adult which changed the way in that I do care. Therefore, I tried to explain the procedure of the skills I was doing and have an understanding about the general health of an older population. The last thing, I think I did a nice job on is the nursing process. I assessed the client in the beginning to look for any complications which he had a really high blood pressure. Therefore, I had an order for labetalol which decreases blood pressure, and if I had time to administer it, I would have come back thirty minutes later to reassess his blood

I have a similar view compare to yours, I firmly believe that nurses or advance practice nurses do apply theories, models and principle in daily nursing practice, however, the theories, models and principles are simply gone unnoticed. There is room for improvement to enhance the awareness of theories, models and principles that are being applied, however I believe that does not represent the theory-practice gap. I appreciate your expression on how you have gained deeper understanding of the theories that you have learned, and you are planning on including more theories into future practice. I have adjusted my philosophy after the semester of learning. At beginning of the semester, I simply believe one particular theory will support my advance…

My new job has required even greater time management than I have previously implemented. I worked a thirteen-hour shift the day before the exam, worked immediately after the exam, and then completed an online midterm for my socio-cultural nursing class that evening. Although I have not received my exam grade, I felt very prepared and confident due to my strict time management.…

Nurses are expected to continue developing their skills and gain more knowledge throughout their careers; the RCN (2010) defines this as lifelong learning. Two of the most fundamental contributing areas of learning are clinical placement and theory. Being able to link the two together is an essential skill; this is emphasized by Cope et al (2000). Focusing on these two aspects, this essay is going to explore and analyse the extent of learning in the subject area of personal care and the links to other important factors of nursing.…

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council defines the enrolled nurse (EN) as, an associate to the registered nurse who demonstrates competence in the provision of patient-centred care as specified by the registering authority’s license to practice, educational preparation and context of care (Monash, 2013). As the enrolled nursing is on an on-going learning career, critical thinking, reflection and analysis are vital criteria that a nurse should concern during her duties and studies. Mainly these three points are significant to deliver a quality patient-centred care. Because some nurses that have been learnt these criteria are not applying in their clinical practice. Critical thinking helps ENs to make judgments related to client’s human…
