The term “nationalism” in general is used to delineate two phenomena: First is the attitude or behaviour that the members of a nation have when they care about their national identity, and second is the actions that the members of a nation take when seeking to achieve or sustain self-determination (Miscevic,2014). Nationalism has been a part of the history of every Filipino. Nationalism is not just a sentiment but also a political concept that can be organized into various categories such as liberal, civic, ethnic or cultural. The emphasis in the words "every Filipino" is a means to widely acknowledge all the Filipinos not just Filipinos from Luzon but also Filipinos from Visayas and Mindanao . ln this paper the focus is on Mindanao's Nationalism particularly the Lumads and the Moros . Oftentimes, the studies about Philippines though not intentionally exclude Mindanao. Recently, there's a conflict between Mindanao and the national government regarding the peace negotiation or to be more specific the "Bangsamoro law" though the study will not focus on tackling the conflict, there will be a …show more content…
They are the indigenous and various ethno-linguistic groups found in Mindanao. Subanen, B’laan, Mandaya, Higaonon, Banwaon, Talaandig, Ubo, Manobo, T’boli, Tiruray, Bagobo,Tagakaolo, Dibabawon, Manguangan, and Mansaka are all considered Lumads. The Lumads are well known for being peaceful and gentle and also considered as most vulnerable group.
