My Smart Goal Essay

My SMART Goal is to create a business plan by the end of the semester for a men’s brick and mortar clothing boutique that I hope to one day own and operate. So far I really haven’t progressed at all on my goal. I have a lot going on in my life, as many people do, and that is the main reason that little progress has been made. My plan initially was supposed to account for the time I have between my almost 40 hour work week and the classes I am taking here at Wake Tech. I have made some steps to combat my procrastination, however this has still not afforded me the luxury of working on my goal. One of the things I did not account for was the amount of homework I would receive. I am not sure how I missed that but it does appear to be omitted from my initial plan. I also did not account for the irregular sleep schedule that I have developed. When I come home from class I do not want to go to work tired so I try to sleep some during the day. Lastly I did not perceive that my off days from work might change so that I either have work, school or both 7 days a week. By observing what they do I could adopt some of their strategies to help me complete my goal. Their strategies most likely will be things that most likely I wouldn’t have come up with on my own. This observation is called Observational Learning which occurs when an organism’s responding is influenced by the observation of others, who are called models. In this case I would be seeking out models either from my classmates or people that own shops similar to the one that I hope to own

In the articles “Change or Die” and “Dealing with Ambiguity: The New Business Imperative” I learned a tremendous amount about ambiguity and why it is so important to be able to deal with it. Changing people does not come easy and it doesn’t come from scaring someone into change, forcing someone into change, or telling someone to change, rather it comes from being able to emotionally connect with someone and giving them hope that the change can be accomplished and that it will be good for them and that is…

According to the time management calendar activity, when I mapped out my daily activities for a whole week, I was able to see that I don’t study enough, and I don’t sleep enough. Because of this realization I am designating more time for study hours during the day, and going to sleep earlier and in turn improving both my grades and my health. Although I spend the majority of my free time studying, I know there is more that I could be doing. Going forward, my plan is to spend more time studying on the weekends when I do not have assignments that are due, instead of taking a break from schoolwork. This will improve my grades in the long run as well.…
