Literacy has been a huge part of my life. My mom always pushed the importance of reading and writing on my sister and me. My mother has always wanted us to have high goals in life so that we would not be victims to a society that does not want us to succeed. She required us to read a chapter of Psalms, a book in the Bible, every day ever since we started reading. My mom never told us why she picked Psalms, but I assume it is because Psalms is the book of praise ad blessings. My mom wanted us to speak blessings on ourselves so that we would walk in the correct path to do great things with our lives. I have always enjoyed writing short stories because to me the weirder and stranger they were the better. I liked writing stories so much that I wanted to write screenplays all through junior high because movies were my passion and I thought movies were my calling. In order to improve my “talent,” I decided to study a bunch of movies old and new. I stopped writing screenplays because I had trouble writing good ones. I had difficulty writing anything that had an actual story like the movies I watched. I am an engineering major now because at some point in my research I stumbled on documentaries and the one that sparked my interest in engineering was the one about Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity. I was so confused after the movie that I did a lot of research to get some understanding on the theory. I never gained too much understanding on the topic of the documentary, but I did gain a new found passion for research and studying. Without my literacy history I would have never seen the beauty of research. I research any topic I can think of especially new inventions and other discoveries that are happening every
