They wanted to be loved. They wanted to be happy. They wanted health for them and their loved ones. One time on the trip this really clicked was when I was visiting an orphanage. I was talking to a 16 year old girl, named Tayamika, about what she wants in the future and what I want in the future. This girl replied to my question, “what do you want in your future?” by saying “happiness and love”. Those three words moved me so much. She said the two things everyone wants in life. She is no different than me and what I want in the future. Two people who live totally lives have the same hopes for their lives. I learned that although we have different social and economic backgrounds those things were completely irrelevant. The things that were relevant were how we all we wanted to be happy and loved. We all loved to laugh and be with people we loved. The materialistic things that made a so called “border” between us meant nothing. What mattered was we all wanted the same things in life and had passions in life. Tayamika demonstrated to me the extent to which social and economic backgrounds do not define someone and how similar we are.
