I had a very wonderful experience with my mentor last semester, so when it was time for a new mentor to be assigned to me, I did not know what to expect. I wondered if it was going to be a similar experience, or not so good one. I did not know what to expect because I didn’t explore the previous one because of time constraints. I was so worried on how to prepare myself for this new encounter. However, I am very optimistic in my daily activities and can only hope that it was going to be a positive involvement.

She meets with each one of them at least once a month at the Hospital.
She emailed more often than she would have preferred. She creates time specifically to working on tasks and projects that she has prioritized for the day per week. She reviews with her secretary each day on meetings and documents to prepare. She devotes an hour each day for a specific project that she is working on when needed – such as policy and procedures.
This is really inspiring for me because I never knew this aspect of pharmacy existed which involves administration and policy making.
Pharmacist role in the society have been increasing beyond the regular traditional description. One thing that stick out for me this semester, is the role of checking patient’s glucose level. In my pharmaceutical skills lab, we have to poke ourselves to draw blood samples for some tests. I chose to go to pharmacy school because I am not comfortable with the site of blood, however it seems to me now like a task that I cannot escape from rather, I have to embrace the change and see the positive aspect of it. As a medication experts and health provider, Trust is established when we display a competence and safe medication experience with the patient. They make sure patients understand their therapeutic options and are compliance with their medications. As a pharmacist, they review the patient’s medication list, eliminate possible errors that may occur and prevent drug-drug and food interaction within the body. Promoting good health habit is the purpose of community health and teach people the relevant of staying healthy.
My mentoring experience with Dr. Witten just like my previous encounter, I have noticed that she is very much satisfied with her job and really enjoys her work. Outside the work setting, Dr. Witten travels around and built in family time because of her rewarding career. Personal relationship is very important to me, and this is something that I will like to develop. My heart goes out to treat patient with passion and respect by contributing towards improving health.
