The first year at a new school can be challenging in many respects. Seventh grade was my first year at my now alma mater high school. I went from a more relaxed school environment to a rigorous college preparatory school where homework and tests were near constant. However, with new challenges brought new experiences. I began my first elective course in photography. I had almost thought photography was very interesting. My grandmother had always carried around a plastic, disposable Kodak camera from Walgreens or Rite-Aid, which she called a “drugstore camera.” Of course, after around 30 shots you would have to take it to get developed at Walgreens. The class was extremely difficult. Multiple assignments every week and the teacher would make each assignment a stunning 250 points. Our teacher had formerly shot for Better Homes & Gardens magazine, along with many other publications and was very strict. “There’s no subject in any of these. It has to have a subject to be interesting,” she would always say about my pictures. Although the class was …show more content…

I feel this characteristic, the ability to express many feelings at once, in the same image or different images, draws me to photography. Photography has a striking effect on most people. My image of the soldier made many people reflect on the importance of our military personnel and the great sacrifice they make every day for our freedom. Others viewed the image as a reminder of the many problems in the VA Administration and the maltreatment of our veterans. The duality of photography is a key part of my style. I also choose to express the small details of life when I shoot. Looking at my image, “Forgotten,” the single strand of dust is the focal point of the image. The dust is what makes the image so powerful. Without that small detail, it would just be a toy

To those who are open to it and who seek out the company of ghosts, it is always thrilling to record evidence of a haunting on film. This euphoric feeling is multiplied when the site in which this evidence is captured is as lovely and haunted as St. Albans Sanatorium. It was during a photo session on November 1, 2014 for which Pat Bussard O’Keefe was shooting for After Dark Magazine, that two of the Ghost Writers’ team members recorded a most unusual anomaly. Pat and Ken O’Keefe photographed a mist forming from a nondescript shape into a very distinct humanoid-looking head.…

I believe that my three photographs effectively communicate the essence of the abstract noun unity. Both the first and third photograph express unity because of the fact that different objects of differing sizes, brands, colours, etcetera are all positioned in the same street (photograph three) or in the same tin(photograph one). The idea for both of these photographs came from the quote ‘We could all learn a lot from a box of crayons:some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others are bright, some have weird names, but they have all learned to live together in the same box. ”Robert Fulghum.…

This particular photo resonates to me , you can feel the sadness of the parents who have to watch their Japanese -American son leave them to fight for the country. I feel like the artist who painted this picture was trying to show that most of these families knew that there was a possibility that they would never see their child again. It also shows that even though this young man may not want to fight in the war, but still decided to .This painting moves me in so many ways. Going to war affects everyone and especially those family members of the people who have to fight in the war .I…

Creativity, headaches, research, more headaches, and nervous breakdowns are kind words to describe my year round inside an AP Capstone classroom. Without a doubt, the class was one of a kind compared to any other classroom. Before I get into all the action I have to start from the bottom where it all started. It was a sunny summer day when I received a phone call from Ms. Puentes explaining to me what this class would be about. Based on what she said it convinced me to take the challenge.…

The team’s job is to entertainingly present, objectively test, and scientifically determine whether or not myths found in popular culture are plausible or impossible. Once in a while though, to the delight of the viewer, watchers will witness the discovery of an insanely plausible myth. By now you may be wondering what this has to do with photography.…

The moment I stepped foot into Freeburg High School, I knew I was in for a big change. I remember when Smithton took the 8th grade class to the high school for a tour of where we would be going the next four years and as soon as we got there I practically freaked out as to how big of a change it was. Seeing the school on the outside, I thought it would be super difficult to get around because of how large it was, but the inside looked even more complicated. It was also really difficult for me to even start a conversation with most teachers, let alone joining any clubs or sports. Either way, I knew was that if my sisters could get through high school so I could too.…

The paradoxical role of photography in contemporary life is explored by Teju Cole in his essay “Memories of Things Unseen.” When a photograph is the last trace we have of a destroyed work of art, it becomes something more, or so it seems. Photography in its purest form is simply a method of storytelling without the need for words. Many factors go into taking a photo. You don't simply take a photo using just your eyes, but rather with your emotions, experience, and heart.…
