Personal Narrative: My First Work Experience

Improved Essays
This semester I had my first work experience related to my field of study. I interned with Morningstar which is an independent provider of investment research, financial information on mutual funds, stocks, exchange-traded funds and multiple saving plans (Morningstar 2016). Morningstar’s mission is to provide software, reliable information on its investing site, online and print-based products for individual investors, professional advisors and institutional clients. It has offices in 27 countries including North America, Australia, Asia and Europe (Morningstar 2016). One of the Morningstar offices is located in Central Business District in Sydney on 36 and 37th floors. There are approximately 150 employees in the local Sydney office that are …show more content…
Morningstar has an associated company called Ibbotson which focuses on investment management in Australia and provides consulting, research, and helps investors achieve their financial goals (Ibbotson 2016). This year Ibbotson is launching a new product, an analytical software for financial advisors and their clients. Consequently, they held introductory sessions in the second quarter of 2016 all around Australia. Luckily, Marketing team reached out to me with post-event activities where I went through 600 surveys, uploaded them on a database and analysed data by creating visual material (charts, graphs) and a client listening summary. Before this, I’d never think it is possible to get such a deep insight on a product just by reading surveys. Moreover, it was interesting to see what people write on surveys; just by reading so many of them I could imply who was sincerely interested in Ibbotson, and on the other hand, there were some who had a “leave as soon as possible” thought on their …show more content…
That was one of the topics we covered in the workshop. I was lucky enough not to engage in any conflicts because I am very flexible, friendly and nice to everyone in my company. However, with the knowledge I gained from class readings, I can cope with an argument by forcing, accommodating, avoiding, collaborating, or compromising (Golnaz 2013). Personally, whatever the situation is, I would prefer to resolve a conflict by competing as that would mean my idea, or a solution, is given the most value, and consequently, perused by an opposite

Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

My response to this selection is that Hornak made right decision, even though it took her long time to realize, but it would be hard for me If I were to change my career. It would be hard for me because I know I spent a lot time to study and it costs me a lot too. But I personally believe that we all need money, but I would also want to pick the major that I would enjoy in and which would make me proud. For instance, I like to help others…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Practice Journey: For our practice journey, we completed 6 hours of various activities to help prepare us for our qualifying journey. We began with kayaking around Rheault Bay by our cottages on Turnbull Island. While we were out on the kayaks, we also practiced kayak emergency procedures like the “T-Boat” rescue. Back on land, we practiced campsite activities like building a fire, setting up a tent and campsite cooking. We then brainstormed items we need and created group and personal equipment lists (shown below.)…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

Whenever, I needed help, other employees wouldn’t mind helping me out. There were a large number of people working there who were immigrants but no one was racist towards anyone. Everyone worked together and treated each other like a family so that helped me to be comfortable working with them. The workplace was always very clean, which also created a nice environment around me to focus on my work. That’s really a good thing because a nice working environment keeps me safe, healthy, and gives me more energy to do my work.…

I was a fresh 19 years old and felt like I was ready to do whatever I wanted. I was working part-time at a Great Clips here in the suburbs of Bensenville, taking a few classes at College of Dupage, and not really doing much besides partying with my friends in my spare time. My Best friend Paige just finished her first year at Columbia College downtown, and was looking to get out of her dorm. She was interested in moving into an apartment, but needed to find a room mate. I always dreamt of living in the city, and perfect timing my salon was closing down!…
