Reflection About My Birth Experience

During my first mom baby experience at the hospital, my patient was a first time mom. She had a precipitous birth and gave birth to 6 pound 7 ounce baby boy. Towards the end of my clinical, I went into the room to discuss the patient’s labor and birth experience with her and her husband. She told me her entire story beginning with when she first started to feel some pain earlier in the day all the way through her giving birth. Her and her husband also shared with me the plans that they had mad prior to the birth and how much things had changed due to it being a precipitous birth. The mother explained that she was planning on receiving pain meds, but there was not enough time and also that she was unable to be comfortable lying in her bed during labor, she ended up pushing and giving birth on a birthing chair. During the entire clinical, I was very excited to learn about everything the nurse was doing and I was very excited to see my patients. This clinical was the most enjoyable clinical day I have had during my time as a nursing student. Pregnancy and childbirth has always been so fascinating to me. I feel like it is such a miracle whenever a child is born and love being around it. I love to learn about it and would love to be apart of this wonderful experience everyday I go to work. I feel that during this clinical experience, I did well with participating in the roles of the nurse and being able to communicate with the patients well. I do however; need to have more confidence so that I can start to do more for the patients on my own. I do feel that I am very open to other people’s viewpoints and try my best to apply that whenever I am in clinical. So far in my time as a nursing student I have not been in a very challenging situation where I do not agree with my patients, but I still try to keep this in my
