Coming from a family that prides itself in clinical health experience, I was drawn to medicine, nursing and occupational therapy. As a team captain for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I have been involved in the organization, planning, and fundraising aspects of community events. Through this, I have gained experience working with social media, and data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Certainly, there is much more that I, as a public health professional must learn, however, I believe that this summer opportunity will allow me to expand my knowledge and skills of the profession.
My hope is to explore the various aspects of the public health field in a professional setting, surrounded by fellow peers that have a passion for health equity and social justice. As I continue to gain experience in the public health field, I am reminded of a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” I continue to apply this quote to different aspects of my life.
