Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In High School

As a young adult who’s passion is school, my desire for education has always sifted my ideals away from teenage criterion. Ever since elementary school, my extreme focus to schoolwork made my overall personality different; when asked by my third grade teacher about our favorite hobbies during the summer, my answer was reading at the Peabody Public Library, whereas other students raved about their vacations to tropical paradises. Despite my love for learning, I wasn’t the most intelligent student. Competitive pressure is found in a higher volume at high school though, because several of my peers want to win the race to become the valedictorian. I have participated in that race, pushing myself for three years to complete my goal of being in the top …show more content…
Others are harassed for their career choice, as well as their personal expression and social identification. If students were taught that strong study methods and perseverance could help them achieve their career goals, then I believe that Columbia City High School would have more educationally driven students. All freshman at CCHS were involved in a Freshman Mentor Program (FMP), where older students advise the new pupils, during the first two trimesters of the school year. Career focused activities, question and answer sessions, and overall guidance and advice never ceased from this class. Personally, it calmed my fears about attending high school. FMP sorted out some of my confusion and gave me the confidence to efficiently manage my schooling. Allowing the FMP program to expand longer than the second trimester of freshman year would help our school; students that don’t have reliable mentors that understand, or those that still haven’t mastered the technique of “school” but are too bashful to ask the guidance counselor for help could be transformed by this student led mentor
