As a result of continuous practice and persistence, I became the principal player in my freshman band. Before entering high school band, notwithstanding the effort, I faced financial challenges. My family could not afford a trombone or pay for band to let me continue my dreams. But I did not surrender hope, and asked my band teacher for help while my parents sought aids from my relatives. Fortunately, I could purchase a student model instrument at a cheap price and continue to play in high school.…
I have always loved music. It started around nine years ago when I started playing piano. Piano was an instrument that my sisters and mom played and I was fascinated by the sounds that it could make and how you could make songs your own. Fourth grade I played violin but it wasn’t my thing because I could not find the thrill that the piano gives me when I play.…
Music is the universal language, and my duty as a devoted violinist is to convey my message of passion through every bow stroke. Whenever I participate in an ensemble, whether it be the SCHS Chamber Orchestra or YOPW’s Youth Symphony Orchestra, I enter into a haven in which the excess worries of everyday life wither away, and all that stands is the music before me. With the chance to exhibit and further develop my leadership skills as section leader and assistant concert mistress, I set the example for my fellow musicians by expressing true musicianship to fulfill my duty to the ensemble and execute a successful performance. Life is an orchestrated ensemble composed of varying styles and ever-changing tempos, and I believe that my ability…
One of the great things in today’s world is how many different ways one can express oneself. A few prime examples are writing, painting, debating, and music. I personally express myself is through playing my trombone and creating music. Whether it is in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, or the Church Orchestra I show the world how I feel, think, and believe.…
The screeching of my violin echoed off the wall as I struggled to play Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor. The double stops that were meant to flow in harmony came out in a jumbled mass of notes indistinguishable from the shriek of a dying cow. I whimpered as these terrible sounds emitted out of my violin, and threw my violin down in defeat. I slowly tilted my head towards the clock, a terrifying reminder that my addition was only 10 min away. I gathered up my music, and ambled away from the empty practice room to where my judge would listen to my audition.…
In my seventh grade year, I decided to join band. I had known how to play flute, and though I wasn't the best I still enjoyed it so I continued. I played in band in eighth grade, too. The directors had decided since I was so “talented” I should join marching band.…
Lou Rawls, an American singer, once acknowledged music as the “greatest [form of] communication in the world” (“Brainy Quote,” n.d., para.14). Music is a way for people to express themselves and their feelings comfortably without being ashamed or embarrassed. While these are positive contributions to personal development, there is much more that music provides for people. The article, “Is Music is the Key to Success?” by Joanne Lipman, addresses how music can help people communicate, think, and feel better in a professional job that may have no correlation to music.…
Coming out of fifth grade, I didn’t know what music really was. It just seemed like a bunch of guys playing a plethora of notes in my opinion. But once I joined middle school band, that all changed. Sometime during sixth grade, I had the sudden epiphany that I need to pursue music for as long as possible, because it felt special. It still does.…
Eventually I learned to play the piano as well, at age twelve in the seventh grade. That same year, I enrolled myself into the school choir. This decision changed my life because I learned that music is where my heart is. I realized that no matter where life put me, no matter where I lived since I had frequently been moved around to different schools and different states, music was my foundation. I could express myself in the choir room and pour out my emotions through my choral performances and as a soloist.…
In Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World”, citizens live without individuality, intelligence, and emotions, all of which can be connected to the absence of playable music. In the real world, everyone is affected by music that they listen to or create themselves, but it is truly underestimated. People have the distinguished ability to express their individuality through the varying types of music in the world and how they react to it. Being a musician can challenge someone’s mental and physical abilities and, if they accept the challenge, can make them more intelligent and capable members of society. Music can also cater to one’s differing emotions and help them to understand their feelings and coping methods.…
Even though it is possible for students to have outbreaks of temper tantrums, it should be noted that those using music therapy with students who have disabilities are fully qualified to help keep children safe and calm. These people are professionals and have been trained to help children who have temper tantrums. They are capable of calming these students down, and they help them return to a state of either pleasant or neutral feelings. The continuation of funding for these programs are important to students who are disabled. Music therapy helps them communicate when they are unable to use words.…
The majority of my family has played an instrument. In middle school, I started Advanced Band as a 7th grader. I played both the clarinet and bass clarinet. I’m currently trying to better skills on the guitar. I look forward to meeting talented students.…
Consequently, I was among the worst performing students in my class. My teachers thought I was generally unintelligent and anti-intellectual. However, outside classroom, I developed an insatiable desire for music and musical instruments. Every evening after school, I would set aside at least two hours to learn to play the guitar and…
Whether it was my young self having the desire to play the violin or simply me being obstinate in not listening to adults, it’s a wonder to realize that what defines me today is all due to my younger self refusing to give up. Despite my determination, it became clear to me that my passion for the violin was not matched by the effort that I was putting into the instrument. As part of my instruction on the violin, I participated annually in ASTACAP-American String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement Program. Until…
What is Music? When words fail, music speaks. Music is an unavoidable part in everyone’s life. Whether its music you play by personal choice or music you hear in supermarkets or on the radio in the car.…
