They must take the advice of the scholars, parents, and students along with their own knowledge and develop curriculum for students. They must understand that it is necessary to relate schools to local political, economic, and social forces so that the means and goals of the curriculum benefit the lives of learners in particular circumstances. Teachers must also motivate learners with their own enthusiasm for learning as students like to learn from teachers who demonstrate a love for learning. Everyone concerned about the future and the quality of education should take part in the planning and development of multicultural curriculum. An important aspect of being a culturally relevant teacher is the way in which one thinks about social contexts, students, curriculum and instruction. The curriculum should reflect the diversity of the various ethnic groups that make up a diverse society (Alvarez, 2005). Literature can give students a window into another culture allowing students to view the experiences of others. Multicultural literature can also be used as a mirror allowing students to reflect on their own experiences. It serves a catalyst for the dialogue on race and class in schools. Through these text students from the various ethnic backgrounds are empowered, students can understand each other’s cultural differences and strengthen community
