I was hiding behind a big bush with my full gear, face covered, trying to avoid the hot air flow of the desert. It was over a hundred degrees outside, the heat and dryness out there kept slapping my face. We started to move and head to the vehicle. I bet the feeling of driving a heavy-duty military truck through a massive desert one can only experience as a soldier. We arrived at our training base. I opened the door to step outside. That moment when the door was opened, the wind blew on my face. It was not the heat and the dryness anymore. It was the freezing air flow of Missouri at the end of October. The cold brought me back to the reality. The training time in the desert was over; I was no longer in the middle of the California. I was here …show more content…
It was a busy Tuesday for me at work, but fortunately, I made it to class on time. The building was like a little maze to me. It took me a while to find the right room. It would not have been that bad if I had got in at the other door. I entered the room and quickly picked the seat at the back of the room. People said that students chose to sit in the back to avoid contact with the professor and to be passive, but it did not work for me that way. It gave me a wider view of what was happening in class. My first class was a history class about the Civil War. History has always been my favorite subject, so I was excited and confident to …show more content…

The school set up a very flexible schedule in time and location. Our leadership understood and let us leave earlier to come to class on time. Our professors give us time and help whenever we go to the field for days and weeks, and we have no choice but to skip class. This is my favorite quote written by the famous writer of the book The fellowship of the Rings, J.R.R Tolkien, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us” (50). We are given time, courage, and opportunities, so we would not take them for granted. We make sure they know our efforts of keeping up the standards and improving ourselves.
Time flew, my first day back in school finally finished. It had been a long day for me with work and study. However, it was an fascinating day. I met new people and learned new things. Moreover, I realized I made the right decision to go back to school to improve myself. I already could see my future as brighter and more open thanks to higher education. It was time to head back to the car, go home, and get some rest. It was dark and cold outside. I stepped the first step out, and I also made my first step onto this new journey: the journey of
