Personal Narrative: My Love Of Learning

Improved Essays
My mother throughout my whole life has provided me with a sincere love of learning, which has affected my whole life. I can remember times when we went on our group nature walks to learn about nature. While on those nature walks, we learned about plants, trees, animals, and we even searched for bugs to collect! Also we would go out at night and look at the spectacular stars and even study the stars’ constellations or maybe even try to find owls while they were up at night and discover what type of owl they were by the sound of their hoot. We would visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and discover beauty and talent and learn about who these artists were and their life stories. She taught me about every American battle in history. I also remember her letting, my sister and I sit in her bed and listen to her read our favorite school books to us for hours on end. Her giving me the love of learning taught me to always ask questions and to think deeply about whatever I am doing.

As I approached the check-in agent, I could feel my stomach pulsating as I held back the tears, trying to be brave in front of mother and my family members. I looked in my mother's brown eyes and found no trace of tears shed. This was not her first experience of saying goodbye to a family member. She had experienced it with her siblings, my father and my sister. Now me. "…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

Starting with the first day we moved into our dorm we are greeted by new faces and take part in activities that would reserve a permanent place in our memories. Students arrived at Michigan State from different cities, different states, and even different countries, and we were placed in dorm rooms and worked to find our way to class. These students have different backgrounds and goals, and each had an idea for a career, but we all share the need to be able to communicate at a college level and writing is an excellent place to start. Michigan State requires completion of a college level writing course for all degrees and most students take WRA101, first year writing. My path to literacy began when I was old enough for my mother, father, and older sisters to read to me. I began listening to books before I could speak, and I believe my exposure to books influenced my speech development because it expanded my vocabulary. Throughout elementary school, not only did I read often, but I also played various computer games that helped form my technological literacy; socialized with my family’s friends, which supported my social literacy; and spent much of my time at church, where I developed my spiritual literacy. As I entered middle school, I began as a homeschooled student. However, I transitioned to a private school in eighth grade and then to a public high school in ninth grade.…

When expectations set high, not meaning them meant my siblings and I typical had a week long cleaning punishments along with handing over all toys, games, and light up sneakers; about three times a week this happened to me.…
