I didn’t know anyone who was on the mock trial team, and frankly, before the start of the year, I didn’t even know the team existed. It wasn’t until the club fair–a meeting where all of the after school clubs promote their clubs–that I became interested in joining. At the club fair the mock trial captain explained to all of the students the basics of mock trial. He told us about the intricacy and intellectual prowess that was needed to succeed in mock trial, and he told us about how it would challenge us in ways we had never been challenged before. From the intensive questioning during the cross-examination, to the extensive performing during the opening statement, mock trial envelops it all. It feeds my intrinsic desire for self-improvement and exposes me to unfamiliar experiences while also remaining stimulating and fun. It has facilitated the development of vital skills like quick thinking and problem solving, it has introduced me to some of my closest friends, and it has given me a new outlook on trying new things.
