Through a range of work placements, I learnt how to approach life as a doctor. At a lead clinical neuromodulator centre at Guys’ & St Thomas’ Hospital, it has become clear to me that humanity’s view of medicine is the antithesis to reality. What truly lies beneath is the interaction and communication with patients. The frequent shadowing of doctors in various fields has highlighted for me the emotionally turbulent journey a doctor treads on a daily basis, but this has only left me wanting to return, to help, to make even the smallest of changes to patient’s lives. I was also able to understand the importance of organisation and cooperation between primary and secondary care in order to obtain a more effective NHS system. The NHS system present today, can be compared back to the 1970s which has intriguingly has been called a “disappointment” in Julio Frenk; ‘Primary Care Reinvented’, Lancet’s Medical Journal; where he explored the idea that medicine has come a long way due to the Alma Ata Declaration successfully protecting and promoting health of people which is seen in medicine …show more content…
Also volunteering as part of St George’s charity gives me the opportunity to have lunch with the elderly, listening to them and in some cases providing them with a caring compassionate
