Now a days to run a doctor’s office smooth and easy different personal with different jobs are crucial to satisfied and meet all the necessities of the patient. One of the most important personal in a doctor’s office is a medical assistant. There are two type of medical assistant: the administrative and the clinical. Both of these type of medical assistants must have excellent characteristics, ethical and morals behaviors. A medical assistant’s job might seem easy, but lots of education and knowledge is required to obtain proper credential in order to work in a doctor’s office.

Some of the characteristics they should possess are been able to handle stress, enjoy assisting other, knowledge of medical terminology, be organized, and be a good leader, multi task, good communication skills, good listening skills and bilingual and follow instruction. He or she must also practice patient confidential, respect, courtesy, empathetic to the feelings of the patient, and a friendly personality, as well as continued their education in order to help patients, and inform their community. Both administrative and clinical medical assistant should also know the patient’s rights that The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has establish to promote excellent healthcare services. Some of the patient rights are - the right to receive high quality care and treatment but also have the right to refused treatment, respectful treatment, privacy and confidentiality, the right to know the name of the healthcare provider and what credentials they hold, the right to know about his or her diagnosis, treatment, informed consent, and safe environment. The medical assistant should be aware of the standard of care they are allowed to perform and not go outside of their scope of practice. There are multiple responsibilities that the administrative medical assistant is required to do, for example, answering the phone, able to use computer applications, triaging phone calls with the permission of the physician, scheduling appointments, filing patient’s charts, collection of money, filing insurance claims and medical coding, handling correspondence. The administrative assistant should have knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding.
