Some of the characteristics they should possess are been able to handle stress, enjoy assisting other, knowledge of medical terminology, be organized, and be a good leader, multi task, good communication skills, good listening skills and bilingual and follow instruction. He or she must also practice patient confidential, respect, courtesy, empathetic to the feelings of the patient, and a friendly personality, as well as continued their education in order to help patients, and inform their community. Both administrative and clinical medical assistant should also know the patient’s rights that The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has establish to promote excellent healthcare services. Some of the patient rights are - the right to receive high quality care and treatment but also have the right to refused treatment, respectful treatment, privacy and confidentiality, the right to know the name of the healthcare provider and what credentials they hold, the right to know about his or her diagnosis, treatment, informed consent, and safe environment.
