Surveillance and Newspaper Discovery of newspaper was a revolution, it was a form of new media which provided news to every ordinary reader. However publishers didn 't focus on the content of news, they focused on the needs and attraction for readers so they can sell their audience to the advertisements agencies. As a reader, one might buy a newspaper for informative purposes but due to active surveillance process, they are also providing the data to newspaper agencies, for example the number of sales when there is sports article published in the newspaper, If the sales are high that means readers prefer sports related news which opens doors for the sporting advertisements and promotion.

One can talk to his friends across border for free, but it is not true, users are just not paying for their services that doesn 't mean that users are not giving anything in return. Social media has exploited it’s user on a very large scale, the service the social media provide is never free and will never be free because for the companies like Facebook, their users are their labor. Facebooks wants it users to spend more and more time socializing because the users generate data by every click, which they can sell to different agencies.The labor of being watched goes hand-in-hand with the work of watching: viewers are monitored so advertisers can be ensured that this work is being done as efficiently as possible (Mark Andrejevic 2002). User are always under surveillance and are working for social media companies but they are not getting paid for their work because the are enjoying the services provided by social media, that is the main reason why the social media industries are progressing at very notable rate. User data can be sold to anyone for profit, sometimes which ends in credit and finical spams. In 2001 Mark Zuckerberg, founder and Ceo of Facebook, settled privacy case with FTC because Facebook has violated laws and was involved in many practices which had put the safety of users on stake. In a press release FTC stated “ Facebook promised users that it would not share personal information with advertisers, but it did” ( Diane Bartz and Alexei Oreskovic 2011). Tones of date is sold everyday to unknown buyers, and no one knows how that data is being used.
