Throughout my experiences in high school, I strove to be as involved with my community and fellow students as physically and mentally possible. When I began my educational career at Germantown, one extra-curricular activity that piqued my interest was marching band. Throughout my four years being involved with band, I learned perseverance, leadership, and performance techniques that I will use throughout the rest of my life. Helping younger members learn and grow was a pivotal moment in my life because it made me believe that I make a difference, no matter how small the gesture. This group helped me to grow and learn more about myself through community service. Not only did NHS have prestigious academic requirements but also it ensures that its members are highly functioning members of society upon completion. One service project that stood out to me was helping with Habitat for Humanity. I spent one Saturday cleaning and preparing a site in order to build on a later date. By understanding that others do not have the essentials in life that I take for granted was incredibly humbling. Although these two words may be antonyms, I live my life by knowing when the right time is to show my true colors and when it is best to keep my personality to a minimum. In social settings, I am not one to tell a stranger my life story, but my I am very frank and honest about myself with my closest friends. Something that everyone knows about me is my love for musical theatre. I have been involved with theatre and show choir for as long as I can remember. Theatre helps me escape to faraway worlds and become someone new. Without theatre, I would not be a comfortable public speaker and I would not be able to relate to a wide variety of audiences. The arts, in general, have helped me to stay loose and on my toes in hectic situations.
