Accessibility of knowledge is hindered in a way in my school with 1:1 technology. A school wide policy keeps as much content as possible on the tablets and using Google Classroom for assignments prevented students without an internet connection from accessing their work. These students are at a distinct disadvantage and in my experience it is about 10-15% of the student population. A change I will make to prevent these students from being at a disadvantage is to allow multiple options on how to complete assignments. If I allow students to use Word to access their materials there is no internet requirement or they may print their assignment and complete a physical copy.

When a teacher believes that each student in the classroom can learn that sets a baseline expectation for each student regardless of his or her history or context. Appropriate and high expectations for students is shown to increase their effort in the classroom towards reaching those expectations (p. 376).
In the classroom I can demonstrate this philosophy by approaching each learning opportunity for each student as though is a new chance to learn. In my first year of teaching I had students with learned helplessness and apathy towards school. There were times that I didn’t approach teaching these students with the enthusiasm I brought to students more eager to learn as the semester progressed. My goal is to approach each opportunity with these students with the same passion I have for the eager students; I will be ready to meet these students where they are when they are ready to
