Maintaining Professional Competency in Engineering
Have you come across a situation like some of the experienced or senior engineers don’t perform well in their jobs or not competent enough to face their engineering challenges in day-to-day career life? .Even some of them face difficulties to find good job opportunities. In addition to that such engineers don’t get promotions too. Does not matter how many years’ experience we have unless we are competent enough and having up to date knowledge in our field of specialization.
Engineering as a profession is constantly developing. To be a good engineer, it’s important to stay current with developments in the field.

You have to pay some money for the membership, but it’s fine because by joining such organizations, you will get many more benefits such as professional recognition, free subscription to their journals, magazines, able to attend technical seminars, newsletters, training in affordable cost and mentoring support to achieve your chartered.
• Get or provide mentoring support for professional development.
Some companies provide opportunities for professional development as a way of improving employee retention, and taking advantage of these programs can help you continue to grow professionally while saving time and money. If the company doesn't provide, you can do it on our own time. Try to find low-cost or free ways to learn new things, such as taking free online courses or finding a mentor in the company if there’s no formal mentor program.
As simply having an experienced colleague you can go to with your ideas or questions, and who is willing to give you honest feedback, can be hugely beneficial to your career

Teamwork: To be an effective engineer, you will need the ability to work in a team environment. Volunteer activities will also allow you to gain experience of the team working. Participate willingly in the team work .Shares information and knowledge freely, offering support and cooperation.
Leadership Skills: Leadership is more than just the position you’re in, it’s about action. An example where you will need leadership skills is during project management where you will need to plan, set priorities, delegate, and make decisions and to influence people.
