Importance Of Machine Learning And Artificial Intelligence

The ontogenesis of machines into sentient beings is a direct consequence of the machine’s ability to learn, react and adapt to the changes in its environment. My goal is to use machine learning and artificial intelligence to create perceptive systems and solutions that are scalable, replicable and sustainable.
My decision to study machine learning and AI is a culmination of my experience in a multitude of fields. My tryst with computers began in high school when we were asked to develop software that made learning enjoyable. By virtue of being a student, I knew that in order for a concept to be better understood it was necessary for the teaching methods to be interactive. Therefore I developed software in C++ that used visual aids which made

I was given an opportunity to remedy this situation when I was offered an internship with a ‘start up’ - Geazy technologies where I was given the freedom to learn from my own mistakes and failures. I worked on the server side programming of their app ‘Townwala’ that informs the user about the various events occurring in his vicinity. I worked on an xml generator that converts data entered in an excel sheet into xml and updates the application on a weekly basis. At the end of the internship, I was well acquainted with the nuances of client and server side programming in Java. More importantly, I learned about the planning and coordination involved in building a multi-part industry ready system with a team of people with diverse skills. I was able to watch first-hand the software development lifecycle at work and it was personally very rewarding to see the launch of an application that I had worked on from …show more content…
The application recognized the individual by his gait pattern and recorded when the individual entered the university. During the course of this project I learned to be independent, to communicate my observations and seek feedback and assistance when it was necessary. Looking back at my other projects, I realized that for a system to truly be sustainable and scalable while being socially relevant, it was absolutely vital for it to be intelligent. It was also essential that the system understand and gauge the emotions of human beings based upon their responses and adapt accordingly.
The extent of intelligence that a system possesses determines its structure, complexity and serviceability: just imagine creating an artificial intelligence system that provides an equal opportunity to the infirm by assisting them, working in tandem with them and rendering their handicap obsolete. I believe the outcome of my research will spawn such systems that are also replicable and easily flex to accommodate future needs. For this, I’m confident that pursuing a doctorate in machine learning followed by practical research in the area of artificial intelligence will help me build such futuristic

As profound as the relationship described is, Carr does not avoid the pitfall of strong convictions in his piece. Carr presents studies that show that the web is definitely impacting the users. However, Carr’s feeling about this change is one heavily associated with negatives. Maryanne Wolf of Tufts University notes that “the style of reading promoted by the Net, a style that puts “efficiency” and “immediacy” above all else, may be weakening our capacity for the kind of deep reading that emerged when an earlier technology.” “Weakening” is indeed a word that draws attention to negative connotation.…

In many respects technology not only helps us complete tasks, but do them more efficiently. Technology is helpful in nearly every aspect of life, such as commuting to work and completing complex tasks. The artificial intelligence (A.I.) presented in society today and in Ray Bradbury's short story "The Veldt" both illustrate examples of ways in which technology can provide both benefits and detriments. Within “The Veldt” we see many examples of artificial intelligence from the nursery to the dining room table. These technologies prove helpful and practical in many respects, yet they also show threats to everyday life.…

The way society thinks of Artificial Intelligence is absurd. Most people look at technological progress from a business perspective, namely, how can we profit from it. Some more pessimistic approaches may compare it to an uncontrollable snowball, where progress ultimately gets too fast and unstoppable. There are many ways to interpret the future of technology; however, Catherynne M. Valente proposes a new path for A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) that has not been explored yet.…

Andrew Conforto English 101: GW Professor Mazzaferro 9/14/17 Paper 1 (Rough Draft): Life in the “Robotic Moment” Sherry Turkle’s “Selections from Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other” is a commentary on the changing view of AI, or artificial intelligence, in our progressing society. Turkle’s argument is one based in ethical and philosophical roots and challenges our current definition of what it means to be “alive”. This issue becomes more pressing the more sophisticated, multifaceted, and versatile our robots and machines become. Our era, which Turkle coins as “the robotic moment”, offers a chance to redefine life to not only be limited by biological standards, but rather be based on a combination of…

Kelly and Thompson: How High-technology Products Affect Humans Robots and artificial intelligence are the most rapidly developing high-technology products in recent years. These techniques have been and continue to be applied to an expansive range of problems that arise in medical diagnosis, e-commerce, mathematics, etc. However, how technology promotes our cognitive abilities―making us smarter, more productive, and more creative than ever before? Clive Thompson, a Brooklyn-based technology newspaperman, addresses this tale to open “Smarter than You Think,” his judicious and insightful book on human and machine intelligence, but he takes it to a more interesting level. The year after his defeat by Deep Blue, Kasparov set out to see what would…

Imagine being able to order your favorite thing to eat just by texting your artificial intelligent bot on your phone, or imagine being able to call an Uber the same way. However shady the idea may seem, it simply is genius. The smart devices that we hold today are more than capable of storing data that our minds could never conceive of, which isn’t a downside because it can help to create headspace for other important things. The artificial intelligent revolution that lies ahead of us will not only help make a person’s life easier, but would also buy him extra time to gain new and unfulfilled experiences.…

and other “smart” technologies, we allow them to have things like thought, personality and the ability to learn. When given these abilities, we try to study and see if these artificial things have the same thought processes as a human does. According to the article by Joel Achenbach, humans have a built in quality to progress that is given by the universe and this allows for evolutionary process. This is an important part in when humans create things like A.I. and other technologies, the reason being that the understanding of how this progressive quality works is what pushes the better understanding of our creations. To help stimulate this, we allow our creations to have thought and learning processes which allow for these things to be taught and to use the skills taught.…

A chameleon camouflages to survive, a porcupine flares its needles to survive, and an artificial intelligence learns to survive. In Stanley Kubrick’s, 2001: A Space Odyssey, HAL 9000, the computer program running the ship, becomes fearful and even hateful of humans once he discovers that the astronauts on board plan to shut him down. He attempts to eradicate them, but to no avail. A.I.s such as this one are being developed right now by some of the most brilliant, yet ignorant minds man has to offer, and no matter the cost, this development should be prevented.…
