MCAST strategic plan holds a number organizational objectives:

Amongst the objectives in the strategic plan MCAST focuses on the importance of giving front-line services to students with special needs this goes in line with “A person with disability shall have access to a range of tools of support, community services and facilities including, but not limited to, personal assistants, technological equipment and mobility aid, to ensure an effective inclusion. This objective is linked to the innovation mentioned because each year there is the need for more LSA’s to help these students during their school day. With this objective in mind MCAST can plan how much staff to train for the year thus the more staff knowledgeable in this field and the greater the number of special students that MCAST can welcome each year.
Objective 2 - Increasing Flexibility, Accessibility, and Innovation to MCAST students
To enhance the attractiveness of MCAST courses by increasing the flexibility, accessibility and innovation of its course plans. With this innovation MCAST will refurbish an area for the use of persons with special needs. This will also be mentioned in the prospectus as part of a service which students can make use of. MCAST expects student population growth to rise each year. MCAST uses Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to improve its operational performance. By offering a new area for these students MCAST will expect a rise in the number of registered students, in the utilization of the area and its new installed software and finally in graduating from MCAST (Appendix …show more content…
3) Equipment was becoming updated.
For this innovation, other ideas were also considered such as using another building for this area. Although this is a good idea it would not have met the strategic objective to make the area more accessible for two main reasons. The first is that the students are already using the library building and that the LSA’s staff room is also located there so there is already familiar with the place and the second is that in the library they can make use of the already available resources which in other buildings would not be possible.
The other idea to refurbish the original location in the 3rd floor would have been easier to implement for MCAST but it would not keep in line with the strategic objectives to improve physical access to these students and provide students with the latest resources.
With the chosen innovation to refurbish an area in the ground floor MCAST will purchase new software and equipment to make it more attractive for these students also the LSA’s staff room will be relocated next to the chosen area to make it a more flexible workspace. It will also make it a more attractive with new upgraded restrooms equipped with modern
