Rita Mae Brown said, “Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going.” As any language full of a lot of abundant information and knowledge, people who learn language can also touch and get to know the social system include humanity, history, economy, the fashion, as well as a diverse lifestyle. Moreover, it allows people to think in different ways and has various point of views to look at the new country. To illustrate, I recently recognize that my father, who is an immigrant in the United States, has been affected by his “broken” english in his life. As he chat with his chinese friend with his familiar language most of time and can’t speak in english perfectly, Even though he has come to this country eight years, he still persists his previous lifestyle and traditional thinking, and he never wants to budge from his chinese language group which he has been blended into since he was a child. He is knowledgeable and has strong interpersonal in chinese but knows very little about the culture of the United States even feels alienated. It really bothers him as well as makes him lose his confidence. He is almost abandoned by this strange world , as my father would say. Certainly, People who always keep silence and never use the language of the country where they live will far away from the culture and society of the unfamiliar field; their world and their knowledge about the new area are limited. More importantly, the language could be described as a tool which can help people open the doors of civilization in order to allowing them consider in offbeat ways, and when people learn the new language and can use it smoothly, Perhaps they will fill into the culture
