Reflection For Group Work

Improved Essays
This semester I participated in a group project in which we worked with a nursing home in San Antonio to provide residents with a social event, as well as donate Kleenex, stuffed animals, and funds towards the purchase of a TV. Before our project objectives were determined, our group set standards and goals for our project, brainstormed project ideas, and contacted various agencies. During these early processes, I feel I contributed fairly and was a team player. I offered ideas for how our group should operate and was receptive to the ideas of others in my group. Furthermore, I helped the group come up with project ideas, and I contacted potential agencies.
Concerning goals, our group constructed a group contract at the beginning of the semester.

Netting (2012) asserts that successful implementation of a plan requires thorough organization and a clearly defined leader. Throughout the semester, I felt our group stayed well organized and up to date. I find organization important in my personal life, so encouraging and fostering group organization was easy for me. The group structure was clear, and each individual had roles and tasks that they were responsible for. In other group situations, I often find myself in a leadership position, however the clearly defined lead person in our group was Jen. Jen had many good leadership qualities, so it was easy to follow her direction. I liked that she was enthusiastic and the way she led the group was conducive to getting a lot done. Through group organization and the clear establishment of a leader implementation was smooth. When enacting change, Netting (2012) stresses the importance of planning, and I was surprised by how easy it was to reach a consensus within my group. As different ideas where brought up, each member was receptive and open to them; through this, we were able to agree on a plan and strategy for enacting the plan. The most difficult part of this project was getting into contact with an agency, but through persistent communication and effort we were able to overcome this barrier. Although I was frustrated during this stage, it worked out fine in the end, and I was glad we found the nursing home in San

As we approached the deadline, little, if anything, had been accomplished. This was when I realized the true point of being a leader. I needed to take the front line and motivate my group members to work. Surprisingly, we won first place and when asked to give a speech, I passed it to one of my fellow group members. I later realized that many great leaders follow the same guidelines.…

It is essential for the Nurse Manager to understand fully how to form groups and transform them into dynamic teams in order to accomplish goals. “A group is an aggregate of individuals who interact and mutually influence each other” (Sullivan, 2013, p. 144). The organization often brings individuals together in a group or committee, temporarily or permanently, to perform certain tasks. Typically the group is held to operational targets or metrics and reports up through a service line or manager. Additional tasks may include developing new processes in alignment with policies and best…

Looking back, I realize I should have focused more of my research on solutions rather than defining the problem and researching conflicting viewpoints. I took on the role of an information seeker, in that found myself asking for clarification and more information often. I think everyone in the group took on the roles of information/opinion giver, evaluator-critic, and elaborators. We each provided facts, opinions, examples and evidence, some of which was based on personal experience that turned out to be helpful when discussing how a particular plan would work. Each of us also made an effort to judge the evidence and conclusions so that we could narrow down our solutions.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

As I reflect on my internship I realize it actually started during the summer, my principal asked that I be involved in the Summer Leadership meetings. The school representatives for these meetings were the principal who is a first-year principal with a high school background, the assistant principal who is a first-year administrator and another assistant principal who has spend most of his time in high school, the multi-tiered system of support coach, who is also new to the school and me. This combination was very interesting because I was the only one who had any experience at the school. This combination of administrators has made my internship a bit difficult, simply because they are learning their own roles and responsibilities, so it makes it difficult for them to assign me any of those roles and responsibilities. I have often felt as they feel I am…

This class has served to enlighten and increase my understanding of the distinctions between Pastoral Care, Counseling and Crisis. Before taking this class, I lumped these categories all together as pastoral care. As such, my reactions towards what I deemed pastoral care was very negative in that I felt ill-equipped and was way too intimidated to handle what potentially seemed to be a day to day pastoral care overload. The first eye opener came when I read about the distinctions between pastoral care and pastoral counseling.…

Introduction I currently work as a self-harm practitioner in a multidisciplinary community team which provides treatment for people who self-harm and have diagnoses of personality disorder. In my current role I have opportunities to work therapeutically with patients both on an individual basis and in groups. I enjoy being part of this multidisciplinary team and participating in the experiential group. Coupled with knowledge of theoretical concepts and frameworks I feel that this has greatly increased my understanding of what it is to be a member of a work group. In groups we have to be aware of other people, we have to compromise and abandon our own egocentric needs in order to maintain our place in the group, but at the same time group membership…

Hi everyone, my name is Rebecca I have only a year left in reaching my bachelor’s degree in health management. After school I plan on attending the IT program through my work and learn the ins and outs of being an executive director of a nursing home. I am not sure if I will extend this by starting out in a nursing home or in medical supplies but it is a step in the right direction. When it comes to leadership skills and leading a team in a project either in the work field or through a school project there are many steps in having a positive outcome to the project. Without the right team in place, any strategy and plan has the potential of completely falling apart.…

At the beginning of the semester, we were assigned a team project. At first, the assignment sounded difficult to me because it was just at the beginning of the semester and I did not know my classmates or the team members assigned to my group. With the help of the teachers I was able to meet and get to know my team members by their names, we exchanged our phone numbers and email address to ease communication. In our first meeting, we were able to select the team leader, come up with the rules to govern the team and also plan the times we were going to be holding the team meeting every week. In our second session, we were able to come up with the project, discuss the project then divided and allotted tasks to each member.…
