Knowledge Of The World
From learning about the uprising of the first civilizations in the thriving lands of Mesopotamia to the global war in the 1930’s which caused havoc across the globe, the knowledge of these subjects always intrigued from an early age. From my first Social Studies class in the sixth grade until my final years in highschool, I was always most interested in learning the history of the world. The enjoyment I received from sitting in a History class can never be replaced with any other subject. Sitting in the front row seat, right in front of the teacher, listening to the stories from the past, would put me into a trance that would make me relive the moment as if I was part of history in itself. I knew from a young age that I wanted to become an Historian when I

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, historians make about $25.23 per hour which amounts to about $52, 480. The job outlook from 2012 to 2022 has a 6% increase which is slower than the national average. From all the different career types available for an individual who becomes a Historian, the most intriguing to me is an advocate who can be a lawyer, policy maker, or have a governmental position. To get a better understanding about becoming a lawyer, I spoke to Naveed Husain who is a attorney at Farooqi & Husain Law Office.
“Did majoring in history help you as a lawyer?”
“Majoring in History definitely helped me in my journey to becoming a lawyer. The skills learned in history classes are the most helpful in studying and passing future exams.”
“What skills benefited the most?”
“Skills like critical analyzing and reading will help the most because these texts will help critically read material in your studies, especially in becoming a lawyer because you will have to read a lot.”
“Why did you want to become a

History has always been a big part of my life. I remember in first grade pouring all of my affections onto the historical fiction American girl doll books in the elementary school library and imagining myself as a Swedish immigrant in 1854, or as a young patriot in 1774. During second and third grade I devoted my free time to reading about the Civil War and the Spanish explorers that conquested through my native Florida. In fourth grade I remember leaping through a native american pottery exhibit on a field trip to Tallahassee, desperately trying to obtain all of the knowledge the signs held before being dragged away by my classmates and chaperone. On a fifth grade field trip I was left behind at an exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center because I was too engrossed in the history of rhesus monkeys being shot into space to notice that my entire class had moved on to the I-Max theater.…

I still remember when I was seven years old and how my grandpa would come visit my grandma once or twice a week. I would be so happy to see him because he would always call me over and sit me down next to him so that we could watch the history channel together. We would sit there for hours and watch documentaries on everything imaginable. One documentary that I will never forget is one that we watched that was talking about how the Romans built the Colosseum and their aqueducts. That was when I first realized that I liked designing and how I liked seeing how buildings were designed and built.…

History. Let’s just say theres a reason its called history and not the truth. By dissecting its parts we realize that the word itself conveys its meaning. History is, his story. According to Robert Townsend, assistant director for research at the American Historical Association, historians are researchers who develop a sense of the standard opinions on a particular historical subject by reading other historians’ work on the subject, then use source materials, where they get their support and evidence from, to build new interpretations or follow new insights. Their findings are then put together in books, articles, websites, reports or museum scripts. Throughout their careers, historians are likely to come to face many obstacles, especially when it comes to analysing certain works or events. Contemporary affairs, or even morals and prejudices might influence the interpretation of ancient work, hence explaining why…

In the essay, The Loss of the Creature, written by Walter Percy, the term “creature” means “true experience.” When we go somewhere, we often do research on the place or talk with people who have gone to the place. We create a vision for what our experience should be like without even reaching our destination. We often get caught up in creating a vision for our experience that we forget to stop, look around, and enjoy the world. When we go to a place, we try to experience what we have planned instead of experience what we were meant to experience, otherwise known as our true experience.…

My central goal during my LSAT studying was to maintain a positive attitude, for the reason that my previous experiences with standardized tests would slide into my train of thought. I always had a history of underperformance on standardized tests. Despite these scores, I have consistently outperformed in school and in my career. I transferred from Moraine Valley Community College with a 3.9 GPA, with honors, awards, and scholarships. When I transferred to Loyola University Chicago, I enhanced, furthermore, honed my writing, critical reading and analytical skills by taking upper-level Humanities courses, such as English, literature, history, and philosophy.…

David Starkey’s lecture on the 1215 Magna Carta started my interest for law. The Laws of the Magna Carta very much affected the people of 1215 whether that be the barons or the monarch himself, and the same can be said in today’s society, that the law affects everyone. Henceforth, my chosen area of which I would like to study is law. In a world of change, I believe that is important for laws to be changed and for new laws to be introduced so that they reflect the concerns and ideas of the current civilisation. Personally, I conscientiously keep up to date with current issues and affairs because I think it is imperative to know about this and how it affects not only you but everyone else.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…
