In the United States employers are required by law to provide and ensure that their employees have safe working conditions. As a part of this intervention they must have a comprehensive safety program in place regardless of the level of danger involved in the job. Some Fortune 500 companies rate safety programs as one of the most important aspects of their success. Overall safety measures in the workplace accomplish primarily two purposes in two central ways: one focusing on unsafe employee actions and the other on unsafe working conditions. The overall idea of job hazard analysis (JHA), also known as job safety analysis (JSA), is to identify the dangers of specific tasks in order to reduce the risk of injury to workers (Mondy and Martocchio …show more content…
JHA can have a major impact on safety performance. It results in a detailed written procedure for safely completing many tasks within a plant. A successful JHA program features several key components: management support, supervisor and employee training, written program, and management oversight. It is an effective and useful tool to isolate and address safety issues and risks.OSHA has issued a comprehensive booklet to assist in JHA. The booklet explains what JHA is and offers guidelines to help firms conduct their own step-by-step analysis. (Mondy and Martocchio 345)
As an example the company I have worked in before optimized the job hazard analysis and had minimal to no injuries at the work-place. The company made sure that all their employees attended safety training twice a year. This trainings were very detailed and covered in depth all the areas of their work responsibilities, so that the work could be done safely and at the same time productively. It is very important that employers conduct safety training to make sure that the employees are aware of their surroundings and their protocol. These safety protocols help the companies comply with federal safety
