Importance Of Islam As A Religion Of Peace

Decent Essays
There are quite a few arguments that stick out in the debate of Islam as a religion of peace. Several people will argue the Quran that was a revelation to the Muslims, promotes violence. People on this side of the clash have mentioned there are verses talking about peace, but the majority of the book is telling Muslims to kill all those who do not believe in Islam. In other words, to kill all the unbelievers. The most common Quranic verse critics use against Islam as a peaceful religion is, “Slay the idolaters wherever you find them” (The Quran, Surah At-Tawbah 9.5). In this verse, they will manipulate it as proof that Islam condones the killing of the unbelievers. Other arguments critics run towards is the issue of what Islam means. Also important to make note that non- Muslims make up the majority of terrorist attacks in the U.S. according to the FBI. So even if there are verses in the Quran mentioning war, it does not justify that Islam is a religion of war, when Muslims are not the cause of most of the terrorist attacks.
Another argument is, although Islam means submission, the Arabic word Salaam means peace, and Islam has the same root word as Salaam. Therefore, Islam means peace and is a religion that promotes peace. The majority of Muslims follow the teachings of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, who was said to have been the most peaceful man with no errors, or flaws and only promoted peace among non-believers and Muslims.
The last issue is with Islam being the fastest growing religion. On this end of the debate, Islam is the fastest growing religion. With Islam and Christianity expected to be the world 's largest populations, Christianity is not expected to grow at the same rate as Islam. According to the Pew study, Islam “ will leap from 1.6 billion (in 2010) to 2.76 billion by 2050”

War against their “heathen enemies” was required by the Qur’an and had no exception but to confirm obedience (Doc 5).…

Islam began in the year of 610 when Muhammad received a message from God, soon Islam quickly got even larger over a short period of time. There were lots of reasons to why Islam expanded quicker compared to other religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, or Judaism. Historians believe that the three dominant reasons for Islam expanding so rapidly were that there was weakness and disunity of the old empires and kingdoms, that the muslim military had lots of strength, and finally that the Islamic government was quite skillful and tolerant. However, the main reason for Islam’s rapid expansion, was that the Islamic government was skillful and tolerant. Oftentimes, whatever book or reading that an organized belief system goes by, will advocate the destruction of other groups who do not believe the same if they will not convert to their way of believing. Throughout the history of human existence, this has been a frequent cause of conflict between countries and groups. One such example that is more recent is the Islamic Wars in the Middle East. There are Islamic extremists in the region, such as Al Quaeda and ISIS who believe that Islam is the only correct religion. Even though the Quran, the Muslim holy book, clearly speaks against the instigating or starting of wars, those groups continue to start violent conflicts with those who are not Muslims and those from the Western world.…

War is a state of armed conflict between different countries or different groups within a country. People go to war for different reasons like power which means that someone would go to war so that if they win they can claim territory or take over land that belonged to the opponents. A country might also go to war because they want to defend themselves as another country could be trying to invade them; they need to protect their country and the people in it. I think that war is wrong because as a Christian, I believe that going into war means that you will most likely end up killing someone which I believe is wrong in any given situation because you can’t take what you didn’t give. Even if someone is trying to start a war with you,…
