Nowadays, there are numerous international students in American universities who like making friends with people from their own countries. There are certain reasons that cause them to choose friends who share the same native language and culture.
First, I believe the culture difference is one of the most significant factors which causes international students to always choose friends from their native cultures. To begin with, the United States of America is a country which has various kinds of cultures. Culture contains everything in people’s lives, foods, shelters, TV shows, cars and so on. English is the first official language of the United States, a great bunch of people in America speak English as their single language. Due to this situation, international students are required to speak English in class at MU in order to practice English and integrate into English culture. It is easier for international student to make American friends if they speaks English fluently. On the other hand, English also limits international students from making American friends. For example, many internationals students are afraid to talk with American students. At MU, a great deal of international students think their English skills are poor, they believe they cannot communicate with American fluently and correctly. In addition, a number of international students have no chance to talk with American. They spend most of their free time at home and they always speak their native languages at campus. Not every country has a good relationship with the United States of America. I had a friend who lived in Seattle, he is Chinese. He hate American a lot because he thought the U.S. Government were trying to sanction China. He even wrote numerous essays about how terrible the U.S. Government was. Last but not least, there is a number of American look down on international students. I have heard countless voices said, “Chinese get out of America”. Furthermore, not a few American discriminate Asian. One time at gymnastic, my friends were trying to play basketball, a group of American came and said, “ you guys are yellow race, no yellow race in America, yellow race cannot beat us”. There is a great amount of discrimination happen everyday in America because of diplomatic relationship between countries.
