These are questions I ask myself and even close relatives. How does it feel to love and to love in return? How does it feel giving an individual one’s all? Whether it is commitment, attention, or time. Many Millennials are unable to provide a reasonable answer to the proposed questions, the reason being is that this generation seems to have little to no interest in togetherness, no one wants to depend on anyone, in fact the majority of the world prefers independence, however, independence brings competition and with competition comes,

After years of living in the shadows of previous generations, the millennial generation has suddenly taken over society. This takeover hasn’t come easy however, as older members of society have imprinted stereotypes on its imminent successors that have given them a bad reputation. Despite the negative connotations attached to Generation Y, some understand the demographic and see past the stereotypes. Sam Tanenhaus, the writer of the article “Generation Nice” is one of these people. In the article, Tanenhaus does an excellent job of portraying the feelings and pressures of living as a millennial in a time where older generations are tenaciously gripping to the society they once controlled.…

In “The Beat Up Generation” (2014), written by Abby Ellin, she defines the Millenials as a generation that is spoiled, self-entitled and technology controlled. Despite the negative representation of Millenials, Ellin praises them for being hardworking, technology innovating and outspoken. Ellin offends Generation Y being viewed as lazy and having no motivation to work in order to further claim her purpose and because this was written for Psychology Today and published, her intended audience was for the general public who were most likely to be curious or knowledgeable about the Millenials. I wasn’t very shocked or angry of what Ellin wrote about Millenials since it was all true. Sure, we do come across as lazy, technology obsessed or as we have been named as “heads down generation” meaning we always have our head down looking into our phones but that is because of our generation like many generations before us, is flawed.…

Although the two authors share many different opinions, they both convey that millennials do not have the same reality as the previous generations before them. From reading the article, “I’m a Millennial and My Generation Sucks” by Johnny Oleksinski knows that millennials take life for granted…

The perception of marriage has changed drastically since the beginning of the 1900s to present day. A significant amount of this can be attributed to the experiences and events faced in each generation. As authors Neil Howe and William Strauss explore in their study, “The Next 20 Years: How Customer and Workforce Attitudes Will Evolve” insight into how each generation has influenced the other with its new developments of values and perceptions is provided, thus ultimately giving reason to why marriage is conceptualized the way it is today. The GI Generation arrived after the Great Awakening in the nineteenth century, where they faced hardships of war and depression, yet managed in midlife to “built up the postwar affluent society,” creating…

Finding Neverland Growing up we have all heard the story of Peter Pan, the boy who never wanted to grow up, and Neverland, the land which allowed him to stay young forever. As young adults we have found our own Neverland, where the worry of growing up is nonexistent – and it is called college. In the article “Peter Pan goes to College” author Nathan Harden argues that Millennials and Generation Z are deferring typical adulthood responsibilities such as being economically self-sufficient and waiting longer to marry and start families. Harden builds a convincing argument by using compelling facts and statistical evidence, using credible authors and scholars to argue his main points, and attempting to create an emotional and personal connection…

Alana Picard Mr. Santaella Enc 1101 31 August 2017 Society Changes Robin Henig who wrote “What is it About 20-Somethings?” argues that the twenties are a developmental stage for humans that comes before adulthood. She states that to be an adult, a person must have a degree, be married with children, be financially independent, and have moved out. While in 1960 that may have been the case, in 2017 it is not. The economy is nothing like it was in the 60’s, lifestyles have also changed significantly since then and for a person to move out of their parents house these days is nearly impossible until they have a stable and well paying job. Robin says that “reaching adulthood is happening later than ever” (Henig) which I, personally disagree with.…

Between 1881 and 1914, the European powers invaded, divided, and occupied the continent of Africa during what is now known as, The Scramble for Africa. In doing so, they disrupted the lives of African people and permanently altered the physical and cultural landscape of Africa. In Basil Davidson’s, “The Magnificent African Cake,” he chronicles the beginning of colonialism in Africa, the impact of European rule on the continent, and the ideologies that justified the exploitation of the African continent and African people. Accordingly, the Europeans justified their exploitation of Africa, her inhabitants and her resources because the Europeans classified African people and their way of life as inferior to the western world.…
