Reflective Essay: The Individual Learning Profile

Given the high standards of the medicine course, the results seemed par for the course. A lot of hard work is still expected however to maintain high standards of work.

Overall I managed to obtain the marks I expected but sadly not in all in pieces of work I completed. I tried to put the same effort, time and hard work in all my assignments, however, the marks I got did not always match up the amount of effort I put in or measure up to the mark I expected to get. It can be discouraging especially since at times I was not quite sure of where exactly I needed to improve. While attempting to stay on top of one’s workload, dealing with the disappointment whilst also trying to work to make the next piece of work better made things very stressful.

I had a bit of a panic attack the Saturday prior to the start of exams. I started to feel like I hadn’t done enough mostly as a result of the amount of stress and I believe it might have affected my performance. However, having gone through that, I can better prepare myself both emotionally and mentally and ensure I fend off any potentially negative comments and maintain a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
The Individual Learning Profile (ILP) I created in study period 1 was successful to a certain extent. Though at times it was difficult to keep to my goals due to certain circumstances where other priorities had to take precedence, the goals I had set ensured that I stayed on track. For example, though I couldn’t always go to the gym or do any sport, I always tried to do some form of exercise. Moreover, I realised that exercising was a nice way to de-stress and relax particularly as we drew closer to

This will involve preparing for my synthesising sessions on Thursday and ensuring that I understand all the outcomes before the start of a new week on Friday. Friday nights and Saturday morning will be designated to writing weekly summaries that I can build on when we have our guided learning sessions. Sunday nights will be an opportunity for to go over learnt content and most importantly, for organising for the week and on Monday I can practice my clinical skills and prepare for the guided learning sessions. I believe having a set plan that I can follow will prevent me from making excuses, procrastinating and will ensure I use my time

Goals are something that I have always thought about in my life. Whether it be graduating high school, passing a test, or going to college. Back then I had a lot of simple goals that were easy to accomplish, but now it’s time to start making those goals much bigger. As for my first goal I would like to graduate college with no complications. To do this I will have to always stay on task, turn work in when it is due, and taking care of things before it’s too late.…

As an incoming freshman in August of 2015 taking Rhetoric 105, I not only learned how to take apart papers, summarize, paraphrase, analyze and construct passages, but overall to be a great thinker. There are many ways that a person can tell you that works to become a better thinker, but it starts within you. While writing papers this fall semester, I learned that my writing became better when I a. understood what was being asked of me via the criteria, b. allowed myself to make mistakes in order to understand what I was and wasn 't doing correctly, c. I started to question myself, not in a way of was the work too hard, but in the sense of what the assignment and the thesis I am creating is asking. At this stage, you have to be completely real…

University life exposed me to a very externalised culture. As Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul said, ”We are constantly pulled outside ourselves—by other people, by the media, and by the demands of daily life. As a consequence, we tend to devote very little time to ourselves.”…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Learning to read is a skill many can obtain quickly or not so well. Myself, on the other hand was one of the many children who struggled with not only the thought of reading, but the actual process of reading not only a book, but sentences, word and sounding out words. Struggling through elementary with reading problems and on and off again help made it seem even worse. Going into kindergarten was intimidating, with all the bright colored posters with words even I couldn’t read. Having to be assigned seats next to strangers who soon would become my closest friends.…

Writing has changed my perspective on various aspects of my life. Some of the essays that I have written in the past have opened doors to new ideas. These essays have helped me make connections I feel I never would have made without writing. I believe this is because I enter my deepest level of concentration when I write. This heightened level of concentration I reach when writing has allowed me to reflect on important areas in my life such as self-awareness and motivation.…

Society has set a standard for high school graduates to complete their education through attendance of a university. Personally I aimed to fulfill that standard by attending the second largest university in the state. When applying to the University of Central Florida, applicants were given the opportunity to prove to the reader that they are a respectable, independent, and well-rounded student in around 500 words or less. Which, because there is so much to talk about yet we are restricted by the limited word count, can be a strain for some students. I was determined to make the most out of my opportunity and deliver the best essay to the University.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

To help solve this problem, I created a timetable for the preceding day. Despite this seeming like a great plan, it failed miserably. Unplanned events would suddenly interfere with my timetable. My friends would ask if I wanted to go get lunch, class would end a little late, meetings would lasts longer than planned and homework assignments would take longer than expected. Thus, pushing all of my arrangements further into the day, causing a sense of panic within my schedule.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…

As trial examinations came closer and closer the anxiety started to take over and I began to fall ill, my doctor said that it was just a mild flu, probably due to stress and that I should not worry about it and a few days later I was as fit as a fiddle. I remember going in to write my final exams the anxiety, the nervousness was a lot. I always felt like I didn 't know the work and I always avoided talking to people because they would ask questions about the exams and I wouldn 't be able to answer the question because even though I studied I am just unable to say the work only write it down and not being able to say the work made me feel as though I don’t know it which made me stress. I could barely sit still throughout all the exams, because in my head I knew that these exams would determine my entire future.…

Many people have a place that is extremely special in their eyes. It could be a spot where they killed their first deer, high school football field, or any place they hold dear to their hearts. When they look back on experiences and memories, there is that one special spot that sticks out. When we think of our significant place we are easily to describe the feelings we grasped from past memories, and exactly what the place looked like. At first thought, our significant place is flawless, and we tend to forget the bad times and instead focus on the good.…
