Essay On What I Learned When I Choose English As A Second Language

When I came to the United States, everything such as people, culture, tradition, language and college was strange to me. Especially language was an issue tome. Although I went to International language Institution in my country, I had troubles in most English classes when I first arrived to the U.S. As an immigrant student who was new in a different atmosphere would feel homesick to establish the social networks as in my country. As a matter of fact, I had a restricted social networks at the beginning of my arriving to the U.S. I always hanged out with people from my country. In fact, my aunt advised me I had to enroll at college, so the challenge with language and lack of adoptions led me to have social relations with American students and improve my language. Getting involved on campus was one way to meet different students whether as an academic club, social organizations, volunteers activities or even part time job that helped me …show more content…
After determining my English level, the English department offered me a lot of English classes that were a prerequisite for the main English classes. Theses English classes helped me meet my needs as a foreign student. I did not know studying in the U.S. would so challenging for foreign students, especially when English is not their primary language. Most of the time I was afraid of discussing within American groups and it was hard for me to catch up with them or joined for talking. Shyness was another factor that prevented me to be active in class or social activities. Most of the time I did not fully comprehend what my English professors say or ask at the beginning of the class. It was so hard for me to participate in class discussions or asking questions. The emotional and intellectual boundaries impacted me and most of the time I was disappointed to continue my
