Self-Identity In One's Personal Life

Self-identity is extremely important to one’s personal life. Identity is an image, idea, group, or culture that people associate with. What makes identity so unique is that every person creates their own identity. Although it is greatly influenced by one’s environment, it is ultimately the person them self that decides the type of identity they want to be associated with. For example, one might grow up in a neighbourhood that is known for the high rates of crime. As a result, it is very easy for one to be a part of criminal behaviour in their neighbourhood and so, this person’s behaviour will reflect on their identity. People depend on close connections between other people for emotional and psychological support. Throughout my life, I have developed many relationships; some which occurred spontaneously while other are established through constant efforts. As early as birth, humans instantly have an intimate relationship with their mother. Through constant interactions with other people, the baby learns to love and depend on this person for psychological support. As the child gets older, he or she forms more relationships in their school and their community. These relationships become part of the person’s identity and influences who they become. In my life, I value every relationship I have. If it were not for people like my mother, sister, father and friends I would not be the person I am today. My mother is a very caring and selfless person. As my sisters and I grew up, she constantly reminded us to put others before our self, just like our heavenly Father did for us. My mother entrenched valuable morals that I strive to continue to display to this day. Through these relationships, I learn how to love, respect and care for the other. In my opinion, the most important feature of a relationship is honesty. Without honesty, a relationship will fail. One will not depend on the other for guidance and support. If one person cannot trust the other, the relationship falls apart: the sense of security and reliability diminishes.
