Personal Narrative: Me As A Music Teacher

I was about to go to an after school club, when suddenly I remembered that my music teacher said I could come to earn my "Rainbow Belt" for the recorder. No one else in my grade had it yet. No one was even close, except for my best friend. He didn 't know what I was about to do. I ran down the hallway with my recorder. Looking back, I 'm not sure whether it was the need to be the first, or that I loved playing my recorder. It was probably both.

Later, I walked into the club, proudly displaying my rainbow belt. I saw the jealousy on my friends face. As the year progressed, our teacher had to invent new belts for us, we 'd surpassed all of her previous students.

I enjoyed making art not writing about it. A friend persuaded me to do IB music with him, since I could place out of the music theory requirement. That was the best decision of my life.

After the first week, I was telling everyone it was my favorite class. Dr. Fryling, the IB music teacher is amazing. I’m not the only one who thinks so; she was nominated for the music educator Grammy award this year, and she 's a semifinalist! We 'd listen to music, talk about music, and eat bagels. I was surrounded by people who loved music, something I had never experienced in all of my years in school.

It was also where I first got to compose music. We learned how to use Finale, and then we were told to go for it. All of the first-year students composed one piece, and played it for the rest of the class at the end of the year. My classmates and teacher loved my piece and gave me positive feedback. During the summer, I composing more pieces on my own. I think that is when I realized I had found my career. After, reading a blog from a video game music composer I thought that would be a great career for me. I love video games and at one time wanted to create games. A great combination, my two passions, music and video

    I do believe that I should have been in the 112 section instead of 111, but I did not feel like taking the placement test.
