One can usually find a heartland mall a few bus stops from their houses. This malls are usually located at the ‘heart’, or the centre of each housing estate and thus, allow people to go there easily and regularly. Although they are normally not that big compared to the malls in the city, they still offer a variety of shops to cater to the needs of everyone in the estate, be it recreation, education or daily necessities. These malls usually have tuition centres, supermarkets and food courts to meet the needs of the people visiting the malls. For example, my mum would usually go to the mall near our house to purchase daily necessities as she find that it is more convenient as compared to going to the wet market which is quite a far distant from my house. The mall even has a feeder bus service which further increase its accessibility. This shows how convenient going to the heartland mall is as compared to visiting the malls in the cities which are usually packed like a can of sardine especially during the weekends. The mall has 7 stories in total, including two basement levels and the rooftop level, housing a movie theatre, a library, a huge supermarket, food courts, restaurant and many more shops. It is located very near the ‘Serangoon’ MRT station which makes it very convenient for the people. I would usually go to the library in the mall to study or borrow some books for reading. The mall is Singapore’s first pet-friendly mall with a place for pet owners and their pets to shop and play together. Being a pet-lover myself, the mall brings a whole new shopping experience by allowing me to go shopping with my pet dog. It has a wet playground where I use to like to play in when I was younger.
